ABSTRACT

The first half of this book has focussed on the network of roads and streets that make up the transport infrastructure of any town and city. An explanation has been provided as to how towns and cities function from the perspective of movement patterns, arising from all the members of the population each going about their daily routines to live, work and play, including providing services to each other. The macroscopic forms of towns arise out of this day-to-day life; this will be revisited in Chapter 10.
