ABSTRACT

In the name of leadership, over recent years, the authors have seen increasing amounts of discriminatory, certainly immoral and possibly illegal behaviour by leaders in the political, business, religious and social arenas. As a result of such leadership, during the first decade of the twenty-first century, the authors have seen enormous increases in matters such as terrorism, wars of choice, development of empires, and a huge widening of the gulf between the haves and the have nots especially in the Western world. Pastor Martin Niemller in Germany wrote a well known piece lamenting indifference to abuses and atrocities conducted in Nazi Germany. He spoke of general indifference and inaction regarding Nazi treatment of the Jews, communists and trade unionists. Unless we see some real leadership that challenges current political, business and social agendas, that Niemller's words from yesterday may well be our epitaph tomorrow.
