ABSTRACT

Leadership is related to the achievement of some form of outcome or result of individuals and/or groups. Leader who is lacking in the appropriate level of ability to deal with ambiguity and complexity will invariably seek to reduce the leadership role to its most basic components and concentrate almost exclusively on these. In the First Generation Leadership world only the leader needed to be aware of many of these variables with everyone else simply going along with what they were told to do. In the Second Generation Leadership world was the leader's responsibility to ascertain and monitor compliance and followers were prepared to go along with this. But the situation is different in the world of Third Generation Leadership. In today's world, everyone can quickly become aware of all of these issues that impact on performance and such awareness can impact on the motivation and performance of every individual and hence on the performance of the organisation overall.
