ABSTRACT

Developing Third Generation Leaders is all about helping people develop to the stage where they can deal appropriately with the levels of ambiguity and complexity they encounter and with which they are responsible for dealing. Given the bottom line' emphasis by most organisations it is unlikely that most organisations will be prepared to invest the time and money necessary for the new worldview to emerge in the near future. This reluctance is probably exacerbated by the fact that, once Third Generation Leadership is established, the demise of Second Generation Leadership organisations is imminent. The key is shifting the brain's locus of control from the red zone to the blue zone. And this is where the issue of brain plasticity becomes so important. The research conducted by John Corrigan, Andrew Mowat and myself makes it very clear that any person can shift their brain's locus of control as they close down inappropriate synapses and open new circuits.
