ABSTRACT
Nuwella is a 33-year-old Afro-Trinidadian teacher who told us she was well read. This reading habit included reading self-help books and other materials. “I think self-help books make a contribution in terms of they try to figure out something about the human condition and I think it's interesting to figure out that perspective”. Nuwella then went on to describe self-help books as guidebooks to life because “every human being is looking for something and the self-help books is one of the simpler ways of trying to find that something that everybody is searching for”.
