ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the meaning of integration within the context of theological reflection as a method of integration in theological education. The concern for integration is most clearly expressed in field education. Field education was renamed TFE because of the desire of those who wanted to bridge the gap between theory and practice. This chapter presents dialogue and critical reflection as the preferred mode of communication in theological reflection. It discusses the priority of experience in theological reflection, the place of the case study reflection mode in theological reflection and makes some general comments on the purpose of theological reflection. Theological reflection begins with concrete lived experience, involving the past and the present. The case study is an important source for theological reflection as it recovers data in a systematic way for theological reflection. The case study of actual events as a source for learning had its beginnings as a primary educational methodology in the late nineteenth century.
