ABSTRACT

The theological reflection seminar (TRS) is a coursework unit accredited in the Bachelor of Theology program of the Melbourne College of Divinity (MCD). The TRS was initially a non-degree unit in the field education requirements for the Uniting Church Theological College (UCTC) ministry candidates, but it soon became accredited as a unit in the Bachelor of Theology degree, thereby enabling private students to undertake the unit. While previously there had been a theological reflection process in the field education program, it was primarily contained within the individual supervision meeting with the student. The TRS is a holistic, integrative and interdisciplinary process that seeks to reflect this in the choice of seminar leaders. Within the working of the student's orthodox and evangelical beliefs there was genuine movement in gaining insight into the value of new resources for theological reflection and a change in attitude to some delicate pastoral issues.
