ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author shows some ways in which the purposes, principles and strategic processes of Self managed learning (SML) can be implemented. SML allows for almost any choice of tactics. The author understands what he was saying and therefore to reconcile his acceptance of the theory of self-managed learning with the practice. Allowing for the variances in negotiables and non-negotiables, there is a good basic robust design for SML programmes. On the left are the processes and on the right examples of tactical elements. An asterisk marks elements that have already been identified as part of a robust design. The idea of a robust design is an analogy with, say, the design of the Boeing 747. The author suggests that SML provides a strategic frame within which individuals may, because of the needs of their learning contract, attend a standard short course.
