ABSTRACT

One chairman spoke of the way he manages board composition. This is a core area for him as he is thinking several years ahead. The start point is a review of strategy and markets. Following each refresh, there is a review of the likely skills and competencies needed at board level. These are drawn as a matrix showing an evolution over the time scale. There is then an overlay, showing each board member and their skills, experience and capabilities. That data is gathered from the annual board evaluation process as well as from the chairman’s personal observation.
