ABSTRACT

Projects are becoming more challenging and complex, and the world is becoming increasingly social and global. Project managers, as a result, are becoming increasingly reliant on their specialist knowledge mixed with industry-specific technology and systems to make better sense of their complicated professional lives. Managing the core business of the project-centric firm including those of the client, project and employees create a unique set of challenges for the leaders. Improving the social capabilities of the project manager supports regular communication with their clients and safeguards the longevity of the relationship. To improve communication across the entire project-centric business, project managers are looking for better ways of becoming more open and collaborative. The project manager's new commercial focus means they are having a significant influence and impact on their organisation's financial future. In short, becoming social leads to the greater insight required to make better, more informed commercial decisions.
