ABSTRACT

Whilst the EU is looking to achieve a low-carbon economy in the future it is still dependent on oil and gas much of this coming via the wider Black Sea region. The EU document entitled An Energy Policy for Europe published in 2007 outlined the EUs policy on energy in general including the security of supply for oil and gas. TAP Trans Adriatic pipeline TANAP Trans-Anatolia Gas Pipeline White Streama proposed gas project from Baku to Georgia then to Romania via the Black Sea avoiding Turkey. Russian aims would seem to be to control both energy transit and resources. According to Gryshchenko, Ukraine can be the most reliable way of transporting gas to Europe. Iran and Armenia are hoping to extend the existing gas pipeline between their countries so that Armenia can sell Iranian gas, possibly contributing to the SEC, although Gazprom owns most of the Armenian gas pipe.
