ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters, we have discussed innovation and entrepreneurial activity in terms of macro and meso approaches. We have emphasised its role in long term social and economic aggregate development (macro). We have also observed innovation activity of firms and organisations in regional contexts (meso). In this chapter, we will focus on the micro-level; that is, on the dynamics of innovation activity within firms and institutions. We will, on the one hand, discuss P.F. Drucker’s theories of innovation and entrepreneurship which he approaches from the point of view of strategic management. His main focus is on entrepreneurial management. On the other hand, we will observe an approach that emphasises the role of ‘high-involvement’ employees in organisations engaged in innovation activity. High-involvement innovation is an example of innovation management techniques.
