ABSTRACT

Religion is the perceived mark of identity and distinction and is also a way of justifying attitudes; it is of palpable cultural significance to them. Islam remains the bedrock of Pakistani community life in the UK. Young people's rejection was of cultural attitudes and values rather than religion itself. Differences in attitudes, culture and language have meant that the community is often accused of pairing incompatible spouses together. The influence of the biraderi over parents was also clear to the point that the biraderi decides the important issues like suitable marriage partner and where to settle, Well everything like where to buy land in Pakistan, what kind of house to build. In communal discussions and in everyday contact the biraderis encourage parents to get their young children married. It is considered as nake chann-ga kam. The biraderi has their own traditions and values. The biraderi can include a religious sect and/or caste.
