ABSTRACT

The Ministry of Sustainable Development and the Grenelle Roundtable supported participants with a public database and an online calculator to help with input data for the lifecycle assessment (LCA's). The French Sustainable Development Ministry evaluates the lessons learned from the experiment and uses them as input for a planned mandatory environmental label for consumer products. Among consumers and civil society, Casino has gained a high level of environmental credibility for its products, and as a result significantly enhanced its reputation. To boost the general public's environmental awareness, the French government and companies like the major retailer Casino jointly founded the Le Grenelle environment multi-stakeholder platform; it is officially called the ADEME-AFNOR Stakeholder Platform, and consists of 670 organizations and over 1,000 experts. In 2011, as part of the national Environmental Labelling Experiment, Casino launched step two, the Indice Environmental, which is now progressively replacing the Carbon Index.
