ABSTRACT

The SKF Group is a Swedish world leader in bearings, seals, mechatronics, lubrication systems and services with 40,000 employees worldwide. In 2009, the work with the divisions on product innovation started, says Sim Tee Lam, and we formed working groups to develop the positive side of BeyondZero. The academies provide training on sustainability topics for employees and aim to inspire more sustainable thinking and behaviour. That computing power is offered to major scientific research projects, particularly in the medical field, which need this high-level computing power but lack the funds for supercomputers. It communicates the IBM brand to broader audiences than just customers, and allows for major media stories which also support PR. The wide involvement of employees helps to further raise awareness for the project internally. The main lesson from IBMs World Community Grid implementation is that we have learned a lot of things about technology through the project, says Robin Willner.
