The miss wishing to be formed into regular organized body, and considering that the Directors of the Miss. On Jany 4^th 1802 the alarm of war was renewed. Pomare sent word to the people of Matavai, and to the miss to inform them of the probability of war taking place. The cause was said to be the obstinacy of the Oropaa party, or people of Atehuru in keeping the Too of the god Oro. Pomare was offering as a present five or six large hogs, to their great god Oro, on board a sacred canoe, on which the ark or residence of Oro is placed. Informed Pomare that Jehovah is the true God, and there is none else; that hogs are not acceptable to him; that he is offended at them for killing men, and that Jesus Christ is the only atonement for sin.
