After the departure of the Nautilus, the miss. began to repair in some measure, the many damages they had lately sustained. Great scarcity of provisions prevailed. Some of the miss. accompanied the natives to the mountains, to search and dig for wild yams. The miss s remark The last three months have been a very remarkable period of sojourning at Tahiti. Their civil affairs have suffered very considerably; and their missionary labours, though more than ever before, extended in preaching the Word of God, they cannot say have hitherto been blessed with that success, they daily pray for. The Miss. held a meeting for the purpose of writing to the Directors for some articles to pay the natives when travelling among them, for food and lodging. Several attempts to teach the youth and children, about the miss. dwellings and other parts of Matavai had been tried by several of the brethren, but with little success.
