ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the planning detail required for site inspection, site layout designing, site map making and positioning of facilities and services. Site design is concerned with the arrangement of activities and fixed facilities at an event. It aims to safely optimise movement, reduce congestion and maximise the use of space. A safe design approach begins in the conceptual and planning phases and defines options about the site or venue design, methods of construction and work practices that enhance safety. Accurate estimations of audience numbers will be vital when preparing the site plan and set-up of an event. In outdoor settings, control of rodents, snakes, spiders, mosquitoes and insects of significance to public health must be addressed. Site maps can be designed to be displayed on the internet, and they should be appropriately simple and yet offer good communication. It is important to provide sufficient parking for people attending and working at the event.
