ABSTRACT

The term information and communications technology (ICT) refers to any communication device or application. It encompasses radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, and satellite systems, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning. In recent years, the proliferation of the use of ICT in an educational context has raised questions as to the extent to which it should be used in the classroom. Specifically in relation to computers, for example, some argue that students must be skilled with computer competency to enter a twenty-first century workforce. Conversely, others suggest that technology can have a detrimental impact on students’ interpersonal skills and limit their ability to learn.
