ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a unique approach for couple or marital counseling which can be used alone or in conjunction with other approaches. The concepts in the Conceptual Template give definition, concreteness or conscious meaning to specific words or concepts and their interrelationships that the mind naturally uses in order to understand our experiences of reality, of one another, and of the choices we then make. Kohlberg's invariant sequence of moral stage development is both a measure and countercheck to a clinical assessment of meaningful change particularly as it relates to couples' behavioral interactions. The Conceptual Template reveals a universal thinking process through the identification, conceptualization, and integration of specific and essential philosophical concepts or ideas. It provides a logical, systematic and non-contradictory approach to improving the natural ability to think more rationally and objectively. It teaches an objective thinking process that can enhance critical thinking skills.
