ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a summary of development theories, highlighting how and why they vary in their definitions and policies. The chapter then considers the changing nature of international development cooperation, with a particular focus on cooperation between countries in the Global South, and debates around development beyond the Global South related to the concept of ‘global development’. Finally, the chapter considers post-development and alternatives to development.
