ABSTRACT

Most editing rooms lack the sound baffling and high-quality speaker setups of professional mixing environments, and most non-linear editings lack subframe editing capabilities, so practitioners should hand off the sound editing and mixing to a professional. They will take all of the work practitioners have done to this point and rebuild it from the ground up. Practitioners are "over the hump" and can focus on the details of practitioners’ cut with renewed focus and vigor. In order to move forward, every aspect of the cut must be thoroughly inspected to make sure it is there for a reason. Practitioners’ lead characters are compelling; practitioners’ narrative arc is clear; and practitioners’ audience is not confused about any major issues. The chapter looks at the ending of the three-scene sequence from the documentary Small Farm Rising shown at the end of the "Cutting a Verite Dialogue Scene" tutorial available on the companion website.
