ABSTRACT
Love and the dialectics of revolutionary practice provided Paulo Freire with the foundation for his pedagogy of liberation—a pedagogy committed to the collective struggle to restore our humanity. One of the most significant issues for teachers within a revolutionary teaching practice is our understanding of education as a political act. More than almost any other educational philosopher before him, Paulo Freire asserted that critical understanding of history and human beings as historical beings is fundamental to any revolutionary teaching practice. A revolutionary practice of education is fundamentally grounded upon the notion that politics and the economy are inextricably linked. Freire's radical hope is anchored in his lifelong held revolutionary commitment to struggle against all forms of poverty, to contest the arbitrary power of society's ruling class, to overcome dehumanizing forces of violence within schools and society, and to confront destructive consequences of capitalist dominion over the earth.
