ABSTRACT

Math workstations are powerful places for students to engage in meaningful practice throughout the year. It is important to start them at the beginning of the year and build a culture of learning together. All stations should be introduced and practiced before they are put into the workstation. Math workstations are spaces and places for students to practice, to get better at math, to go from good to great in what they are doing. Math workstations are an instructional strategy that can be used in different math classroom models. This chapter discusses how math workstations can be one essential element of a math workshop model. The teacher should introduce the workstation to the whole class or a small group, depending on the station. Math workstations can be designed to meet the needs of the teacher and the students.
