ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an example of how a parent who desires to raise his son inside a sex-positive, Gospel sexual ethic might manage a situation like porn use. Strategies for a New Sexual Ethic In our world the value of the individual is constantly weighed against the survival of the system, whether political, economic, social or religious – any system actually. In a Jesus-centered, sex-positive sexuality, the body is seen to be integrated with the spirit, mind, and soul of a person. Sexuality is our most potent, renewable resource for pleasure, vitality, juiciness, playfulness, connection, creativity, relaxation, and spiritual experience. It is the simple and difficult paradox of learning to apply loving like Christ in and with our sexuality, but rather than being behavior- and rules-driven, it is values- and relationship-driven. The chapter looks at how grace, love, compassion, and justice are the change agents of the human spirit and the human community.
