114Manufacturing production is the core activity performed by many engineering companies. Production can appear deceptively simple but, in reality, it is extremely complex. Because of this we need to find ways of understanding the process so that it can be effectively managed and controlled. This is all part and parcel of the everyday work of the production engineer and this chapter will provide you with an insight into what this important work involves.
