166Improving an organization’s effectiveness is important for all businesses, large or small. Responding to this challenge is an ongoing commitment and many manufacturing concerns have introduced initiatives that seek to improve effectiveness, enhancing productivity and increasing competitiveness. This chapter looks at a range of solutions including lean manufacturing, just-in-time (JIT) production, and the cycle of continuous improvement activities used by many of today’s most successful companies.
