ABSTRACT

184An organization is only as a good as the people in it. As an employee within an engineering organization you will have a number of rights and also a number of responsibilities. These should all have been made clear to you at the point at which you were first employed; however, some of them might not have seemed very important when you first met them and others might have been difficult to understand. On the other hand, if you have not yet found employment, knowing your rights and also knowing what’s expected of you can be extremely important!

This final chapter looks at your rights and responsibilities in some detail. It starts by introducing relevant employment legislation and documentation and then examines the opportunities for progression that exist within most engineering companies. We also look at the support given by a number of representative bodies as well as the benefits that organizations derive from achieving recognition as Investors in People.
