ABSTRACT

Inspection is the term used to describe the activity of using senses to establish the condition of the electrical installation. Reference is often made to visual inspection, however sight is only one of the senses we come to rely on during the inspection process. Hearing can be used to detect a worn bearing or the clunk of a circuit breaker tripping out. When inspecting new installations, inspection should always precede testing and the electrical installation should be safely isolated from its supply. When performing periodic inspection of existing installations, the purpose of the inspection is to confirm whether the installation is safe for continued service. When preparing for initial verification exam or practical assessment, we should study the inspection items in detail and also practise completing the 'schedule of inspections' for different installations.
