ABSTRACT
Electrical testing generally falls into two categories, dead testing and live testing. Dead tests are tests carried out on installations, circuits or equipment that have been safely isolated from the electricity supply. Live testing introduces inherent hazards and should only be performed where the requirements of regulation 14 of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 can be met. To facilitate electrical testing the inspector will need suitable electrical test equipment, along with leads, probes and adaptors. Test equipment will be marked with the standard numbers and this will also be detailed in the user manual provided with the test equipment. Prior to use, all test equipment should be subjected to a thorough examination to ensure that it is fit for purpose and to identify any damage that may have been sustained since the test equipment was last used. During testing we will obtain test results, which are recorded on the appropriate inspection and testing forms.
