ABSTRACT
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has had a huge impact on the engineering industry. Not only have these exciting new technologies revolutionized the way that we design and manufacture products but they have also given us a way of communicating and sharing information quickly and easily. The prime mover in all of this has been the availability of increasingly small and powerful computer systems coupled with the widespread use of digital communication via wired and wireless networks and the Internet. These new technologies have been made possible by advances in microelectronics coupled with advances in software engineering. We shall begin by introducing you to some of the more important items of IT/ICT hardware before moving on to describe some applications of IT in the engineering sector.
