This chapter provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book identifies how the international community has responded to the rise in precarious conditions and that the rise and types of agile, precarious, quantified work significantly impact women and vulnerable groups. It assesses the claim that monitoring and tracking of work is an intentional move toward capturing and controlling affective and emotional labour, accompanied with a more prescient place for technology as it begins to actually replace management. The book outlines the case study of the Quantified Workplace project run by one company over the course of one year in the Netherlands, where workers were made precarious because they experienced a merge and acquisition, where one smaller company was absorbed by a multinational company. It provides verbatim interviews with four individuals. All four are very experienced self-trackers and have valuable insights into the world of self- and other-tracking.
