ABSTRACT

The superconscious and the Self, Assagioli wrote that: strictly speaking, superconscious is just a term to designate the higher spiritual or transpersonal aspects of the psyche. In it various psychologicl functions, processes, and energies are to be found, just as in the personality, although in the superconscious they can display much greater activity and diversity. The superconscious provides the key to real liberation: liberation is a key to inward being, to subjectivity; bondage is enslavement to the object world, to necessity, to dependence'. The superconscious expresses the energy from the unchanging Self and from the collective unconscious. It transmits knowledge of the archetypes and of archetypal qualities to the personality. The nature of the archetypes is in some dispute. They may be qualities, perfect forms, in the Platonic sense of the word. In the psychosynthetic framework, these would exert a positive draw on the personality through the superconscious and the Self.
