ABSTRACT

As a hub for international and local media organizations in a country where political contestation occurs within a highly networked public sphere, Kuala Lumpur is a relevant glocal research site for examining a range of network newswork practices. Juxtaposed against the large newsrooms at my core case studies, Al Jazeera English (AJE) and Bernama TV, are contextual case studies, namely the large newsroom of the Malaysian national news agency, and the tiny Kuala Lumpur bureaus of several international news organizations. Through the use of network-driven chain referrals, I connected with journalists working at these news organizations to compare global, local, and glocal practices of network newswork.
