ABSTRACT
There is a large and prominent social-scientific literature that focuses on the unintended consequences of human action. 1 Indeed, the role of individual intentionality in social life represents not only one of the oldest but also the longest-lasting contentions in social science. Two fundamentally contrasting theses have been advanced, which might be dubbed methodological holism as against methodological individualism.
