ABSTRACT

The growth of the Chinese economy and the rapidly growing economies of other Asian countries has transformed much of European and North American industry, where they have been unable to compete, or have had to move to more sophisticated products and services. The growing awareness of the perils of global warming and its actuality has forced innovation and change to reduce carbon footprints, necessitated adjustment to agriculture to allow for temperature and rain changes, and required the development of flood defences. Organisations need to be constantly monitoring the external environment or they will increasingly not fit within the environment and will begin to fail. They also need to be constantly checking their internal environment to ensure fit with the external environment. For an organisation to recognise that there needs to be organisational change they have to diagnose the organisation, its internal environment and its external environment.
