ABSTRACT

Competency-based education (CBE) focuses its curriculum on what learners need to be able to do in order to perform capably and autonomously in real-world operations. CBE has gained popularity as the approach that may lead to training improvements. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book. The book also presents insights into the history of training within aviation professions as well as the present-day incorporation of CBE within these fields. It discusses CBE in relation to best practice, including how competencies are written, how to create training curricula based on competencies and how assessments are conducted. The book explores the role of teaching technologies and future considerations for CBE. Experts from various regions around the globe shared their experiences, opinions, praise and criticisms of CBE in interviews.
