ABSTRACT

A brief examination of Russian philosophical discourses and political practices that have made it well placed to be the site for understanding the phenomenon of the theatre laboratory, in particular the archetypes that comprise this study. Following Slavic scholar Katherina Clark’s analysis of the Russian intelligentsia’s promotion of revolution as revelation, an ecology of quests is presented as an epistemological framework for the book. The concepts of the theatre-school and the trinity “school-laboratory-theatre” are introduced as additional frameworks.
