ABSTRACT
Before we proceed with our exploration of early psychoanalytic theory it should be remembered we will be considering theories that had their origins in the immediate post-Darwinian period. This period provided the historical-cultural background for analytic thinking. Without this awareness various concepts may seem bizarre.
