ABSTRACT
The last chapter explored historical and philosophical difficulties inherent in the classification of depression. It is essential however, that we can have some shared understanding of what we mean when we use the term depression. Although depressions vary greatly, honing down these differences has proved rather difficult. This chapter explores some of these difficulties. A further discussion of measurement issues can be found in Appendix A
