ABSTRACT

This chapter covers both tactical and strategic aspects of airline operations, disruption management and methodological advances in schedule planning. Airline disruption management includes minor disruptions and major disruptions management, covering tactics widely used in the airline industry for mitigating the impacts of disruptions on airline operations and business in Section 5.1 of this chapter. The management of on-time performance (OTP) of an airline schedule is discussed in Section 5.2, covering the current practices of OTP management adopted by various carriers, the measurement of OTP by statistics, and the legal obligation of publishing and reporting OTP statistics by airlines in different countries. Examples and regulations drawn from FAA, Eurocontrol, Australia and various airlines are used to demonstrate OTP management and data reporting practices adopted in different regions of the world.
