ABSTRACT
In an internet story that appeared on MSNBC, it was reported that “industry giant Wal-Mart has agreed to pay up to $640 million to settle 63 lawsuits regarding wage payment” (internet edition, December 23, 2008). With this one action, the myth of the Wal-Mart “associate” had taken a hard blow from the reality of its badly paid workers.
