ABSTRACT
Van Helmont views Nature as created by God in order to implement His will. Consequently, the Flemish philosopher does not think that Nature needs to be ‘subdued’ or ‘wrestled with’ by Man: she naturally obeys him as the image of God. At the same time, Van Helmont does not perceive Nature as inferior to Man, since it is at all times permeated by the divine Wisdom.
