ABSTRACT

Within some jurisdictions such as Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Hungary and the United States the practice of allowing for both open-identity and anonymous gamete donation – sometimes referred to as the ‘choice’ or ‘double-track’1 approach – may be found. These jurisdictions are similar to the jurisdictions discussed in Chapter 4 in that they also illustrate a growing recognition of the need for access to information by donor-conceived people, with efforts and approaches taken to allow such access. Again, these jurisdictions create a situation where access to information will not be possible for all who seek it.2 Some have set up voluntary registers (albeit non-government based) in the hope of helping and supporting these people.
