ABSTRACT

The previous chapters have presented arguments for and against secrecy and anonymity, and have suggested that openness about infertility, donor conception and access to information by those who seek it should be preferred. These discussions included analysis in Chapter 8 of the issues raised by information release within a human rights framework. The framework clearly supports prospective release of information – meaning a ban on donor-anonymity moving forward. In jurisdictions that currently practice anonymity, this in itself would be a big step forward. Chapter 8 also raised the issue, and included discussion, of opening records of the past.
