ABSTRACT

The design phase of a project can be where a shift in emphasis emerges, with the focus of the project moving from the business team across to the project team. It involves translating the requirements, expressed in the language of the business, into a set of detailed descriptions of what needs to be created. These detailed descriptions the designs are expressed in the language of the builders; by builders we mean the members of the project team who create the deliverables for the project. They can be hardware engineers, software designers, civil engineers, business process consultants, HR experts or any of a number of other technical disciplines. This change in language is one of the first steps along the journey which can disenfranchise the business. The use of technical design language is essential if the deliverables are to be created effectively, using the full skill set and expert due diligence of the builders.
