ABSTRACT

The build phase of the project can, from a business perspective, actually be the part of the project that makes most sense. The preceding phases relating to getting started, identifying requirements and undertaking design can appear as a rather laborious preamble to really getting on with the proper project, which from a business perspective involves the creation of the deliverables required to make the solution happen. The key determinant of the type of project relates to the attributes of the solution, specifically the tangibility of the deliverables. Physical construction is in many ways the easiest for the business to appreciate. System build, which involves the construction of a computer system, can be far harder for the business to assess in terms of the build progress. In a significant number of projects, more than one of the individual scenarios mentioned above may exist. There are occasions where most of them will apply, maybe at different phases of a project.
