ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an overview of the historical development of Catalonia, and the origins of social, cultural and political issues that have emerged since the end of the Franco regime in 1975. The origins of these conflicts and the manner in which they were addressed in founding a new democratic regime in the late 1970s will be explored in this chapter.
