ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the contribution that social work and social care managers and practitioners can make to helping our society recognize and value older people and the processes of ageing and dying well. It Identifies social work practice strategies that facilitate preparation for ageing and the end of life, enabling people to have a better quality experience of these phases of life. The chapter argues for the significance of social action for better quality ageing and end-of-life experiences for all citizens. It reviews social action strategies drawing on social work and social care that can contribute to policy, practice and services concerned with ageing and end-of-life care. The starting point is that social care and end-of-life care professions need to incorporate work towards good provision for well-being in ageing and dying into their everyday work. An example of including well-being at every stage in life is the objectives set out in the English Care Act 2014.
