ABSTRACT

An important foundation of community ownership is understanding the resource that is communally owned and the proposition that urban mobility, or at least forms of urban transport, constitutes a resource that can be owned communally. Certain characteristics of mobility make it a commons resource and amenable to community ownership under suitable management regimes. By knowing some thing of urban transport as a commons, particular requirements of community ownership can be revealed, which in turn, provides insights into the types of community ownership approaches that may succeed.
